New Northrop Grumman Software for UH-60V Black Hawk Helicopter, Ready to be Integrated by the US Army

New software, developed by Northrop Grumman Corporation, aiming to help UH-60V Black Hawk enter its limited user testing (LUT) phase, has been delivered to the US Army to be put into service. This is a main stage that leads to the decision of C low-rate initial production (LRIP), which the helicopter is slates to enter the next year, learned MiltechReview.com.

In 2014, under a contract between the US Army and Northrop Grumman Corp., the latter supplied the Army with the integrated avionics suite for the UH-60V helicopter that upgrades the UH-60L Black Hawk aircraft with a digital cockpit, whose software meets all the functionality requirements for the LUT.

During the test period, the company will assess whether the system is ready for operating, capable and compatible with the UH-60M pilot-vehicle interface.

In February last year, the upgraded with the new digital cockpit, UH-60V Black Hawk helicopter, successfully performed its first flight test, held by Northrop Grumman Corp. together with the US Army Prototype Integration Facility and prime contractor Redstone Defense Systems.

The US Army’s Black Hawk meets the standards for safety-critical software elaboration, due to its capability to pass over military as well as civilian airspace around the world.

The construction of the helicopter is developed so that it complies with the requirements of with the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Aviation Safety Agency’s Global Air Traffic Management.

“This software delivery milestone is an important step forward in our journey to provide cutting-edge capabilities and mission-enabling solutions to warfighters through an affordable, low-risk digital cockpit upgrade.”

,said Ed Griebel, Northrop Grumman Land and Avionics Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) Division director.

He also added that they are determined to save investment in the Black Hawk fleet, while updating the aircraft in order to ensure warfighters with a decisive advantage.
